Busted Nogales sewer main could be fixed by Friday
A manmade hole in a cross-border sewer main is the cause of a leak that has been worrying residents of the U.S. side of the border, Nogales City Manager Shane Dille said Wednesday.
A video camera inserted into the cross-border sewer line revealed a hole 18 to 20 inches across, Dille said. The hole is on the Mexican side of the border, near the downtown DeConcini port of entry.
To fix the problem over the short-term, contractors are planning to build a temporary line that will run above ground across the border, Dille said. That will allow workers to go in and fix the hole in the main sewer line.
That fix should be in place sometime on Friday, allowing Customs officials to re-open the Morley pedestrian gate.
